Semeru Volcano is an active conical volcano built up by many layers (also known as a stratovolcano) situated in East Java, Indonesia. Semeru is the tallest mountain on Java (Java island itself is a result of past volcanic eruptions). Semeru Volcano was believed by Hindu-Buddhists as the residence of gods and was referred to as”The Great Mountain”. Climbing the volcano is a great experiences but is suggested to begin around 4am when there is room to park and the viewing area is too crowded (notice it gets very cold during this time of morning). the hike itself to the crater is not too hard and well worth the endeavor.
