Rennes le Château, France

Rennes-le-Château is a small village located in south of France, many conspiracy theories have been directed towards the village, some say a priest named Bérenger Saunière has discovered a buried treasure (somewhere around the 19th-century) what is the exact treasure is disputed, the claims are divers (the treasures of the Temple of Solomon, the Ark of the Covenant and the Menorah). After Dan Brown’s novel “The Da Vinci Code” was printed the village nearly tripled  the amount of tourists. the most spactacular bulding is the Tour Magdala built between 1898-1905 on the edge of the village which was used as a library, dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene, till this day there is no certainty of where did Bérenger Saunière had the money to fund all the building. he was found guilty in 1911 (by the church) in selling of ecclesiastical privileges (such as pardons or benefices) but that still is not enough to oppose the  many conspiracy theories.
