Positano, is a beautiful Italian town, with hidden alleys and narrow streets, lots of stairways and spectacular views of houses that seem to hang on top of the blue Mediterranean sea. Naturally, it has easy access to a small, quiet beach alongside a promenade (which is probably the only straight street in this village). The curvy sand line fills up quickly during summer days.
To reach the best swimming sites, you can rent a boat to explore small bays up and down along the coast.
Writer John Steinbeck came here in 1953 to write an article for Harper’s Bazaar. He discovered a charming little fishing village that until then had been known to only a handful of people. Following the publication of the article, the secret became known and many tourists flocked to the golden beaches of the village during the 1960’s.
