The most beautiful parts of Georgia are hidden among the peaks of the Caucasus and the north of Georgia. traveling along the Georgian Military Road (Tbilisi >> Russian border) unravel amazing landscapes and captivating historical and religious sites. The Gergeti Trinity Church (also knwon as – Tsminda Sameba), is probably the most mesmerizing of all.
The small town of Stepantsminda (formerly Kazbegi) lies on the military road, just a few kilometers from the border with Russia. Stepantsminda is situated in a beautiful mountain landscape, above which stands the Mount Kazbek (a dormant volcano and one of the major mountains of the Caucasus). In this dramatic set lays the Gergeti Trinity Church. During the Soviet era, religion was not a popular thing in Georgia but due to the great beauty of the church, it still drew many visitors every year.
– All around the church there are many springs and great hiking trails.
– It is a good viewpoint for hikers in the distance
– The church is reachable by a sharp 3 hour climb, or via jeep up a narrow & dangerous mountain path (about 30 minutes drive).
